Maruti India is going to showcase MR Wagon and Palette Kei cars at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expoalong with Ertiga MPV and Maruti Suzuki compact SUV concept. These cars are available in Japan and are known as Kei cars, these are city cars promising high fuel efficiency with three cylinder petrol engine. The fuel economy figures of these cars is an impressive one at more than 22 Kmpl in Japanese conditions. However, the first impressions of these cars are not really encouraging as they look a very crude mixture.
But they rank high on the parameters of practicality. Now talking about the these cars individually, MR Wagon will have a R06A model number petrol engine of 657cc. Besides this it is available in both turbocharged and naturally aspirated form. Coming to the performance of each, the turbocharged version produces 60 BHP power and a peak torque of 97 NM while on the other hand aspirated engine produces 54 Bhp power and 64Nm torque. These figures show that MR Wagon gives high fuel economy along with impressive power-torque figures.
The other model Palette uses the same 657cc, three pot engine which churns out power- torque figures of 54 Bhp and 64 Nm. As for the weight both the cars weigh less than 1,000 kilograms. It seems Maruti India is showcasing these cars at the auto expo 2012 to get the consumer feedback which will help in eventually formulating their future strategy. The initial trade reports say that if they ever make it to Indian market they will be smallest vehicles to be sold by this carmaker in India. The speculated price of these cars will be somewhere under Rs 3 Lakh.
