Maruti Suzuki's position as the world leader in manufacturing compact cars is well known. With this popularity and expertise, Maruti Suzuki, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automobile major, launched its Swift hatchback in early 2005 and it became aprominant player in the premium hatchback segment. The Swift just shattered all the records and emerged as one of the best selling hatchbacks in the Indian automotive scene.
However, the design and style of the Swift was very much contemporary even after five plus years of its stay in the Indian automotive scene. But the car had to compete head and tow with the new contenders in the market with much better styling, handling and loads of new features. It was time for the Maruti Suzuki to bring in a new Swift into the market. The engineers, however, did not want to sacrifice the peppiness the old Swift packed and they soon came out with the new Swift. The 6th generation Swift was first launched in Hungary and other European countries before it made inroads to India. The New Swift is longer, wider and bigger than the old Swift. Designwise, the New Swift looks very similar to the old Swift and you might not notice the difference unless you carefully watch it.
The New Swift is a great example for the commxiture of Japanese technology and Europen styling, which has resulted in an innovative, sporty and elegant design.

POWER TRAIN & PERFORMANCE :
Maruti Suzuki New Swift is available in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variants of New Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series engine with variable valve technology pumps out a power of 87 PS while churning out a torque of 114 NM, while the diesel engine is powered by a 1.3 litre DDiS engine which pumps out a power of 75 PS and a torque of 190 NM. Both the engines are coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The improved fuel efficiency of the petrol engine now stands at 18.6 kmpl, about 4 percent increase in fuel efficiency than the outgoing Swift. The diesel engine powered New Swift also now boasts of an impressive fuel efficiency of 22.9 kmpl, about 6 percent more than the outgoing model. The fuel efficiency can also be attributed to the reduction in the weight of the new Swift. While the petrol Swift is lighter by 30 kgs when compared to the older version, the diesel Swift is lighter by 15 kgs.
For suspension, the New Swift has MacPherson struts for the front and Torsion beam for the rear, which ensures that the best of the ride quality. It also has ventilated disc brakes for the front and drum brakes for the rear. With a 4.8-turning radius, the New Swift has rack and pinion steering as standard on all the variants.
BUILD & STYLING :
The best-looking car just got better with the New Swift. The New Swift though resembles the older Swift to the "T"; the New Swift is very different from the old model. Maruti Suzuki India, with the New Swift has just completed where it had left pending with the old Swift.
The New Swift is based on an all-new platform that is longer and larger than the older platform making the car look long and big simultaneously.The New Swift is 90 mm longer than the outgoing Swift. The New Swift flaunts a new grille and flared out headlamps. The new visible feature is the turn indicators that are neatly placed on the outer rear view mirrors. The major difference is in the rear section where the boot is now more pronounced which differentiates the New Swift from the Old. The tail lamps, like the headlamps are more fared backwards.
The New Swift's interiors are very contemporary with rich black interiors with chrome accents. The ergonomics are improved and new waterfall centre console imparts the stylish and trendy feel. Even the upholstry is far superior to the out going model. The body hugging seats are epitome of comfort. The rear split seats is however missing from the New Swift.
The Maruti Suzuki LXI/LDI features Parcel tray, lane change indicator, fuel consumption display, tilt steering, low fuel warning lamp, Head light On reminder, key in slot reminder, seat belt unfastened reminder, Power steering, manual AC, Immobilizer and body colored bumpers.
Adding on to the above features, the VXI/VDI features, Electric ORVMS with Indicators, Keyless Entry with Security alarm, chrome door cabin side handles, power windows all around, central locking, fog lamps both at front and rear, body colored ORVMs, body colored door handles, wheel caps, day night in-cabin mirror.
Adding on to the above features, the ZXI/ZDI features, Height-adjustable driver seat, integrated turn indicators on ORVMs, rear wiper washer and defogger, Dual Airbags, ABS with EBD, Steering wheel controls, Integrated Audio system, Auto AC, 15 inch alloys, six speaker audio with four speakers and two tweeters.
The Maruti Suzuki New Swift is big on safety and it shows. Dual Airbags and ABS-EBD are the main safety features, which will be available on both the petrol and diesel engined top end models. The new Swift also comes with a six layer polymer based fuel tank, which is lighter than the metal fuel tank of the older version.
